A real insight into what it’s like to work as a photographer.

Most photography workshops teach skills.
This goes further.

Behind the Lens experience is designed for young people aged 14+ who are curious about what a creative career could actually look like, not just how to take a good photo, but how photography works in the real world.

Whether they’re already studying photography or simply feel drawn to it, this experience offers something rare: the chance to step into the role, take responsibility, and see what it feels like to do it for real.

Why this is Different

This isn’t a classroom.
It’s not a tick-box workshop.

It’s a one-day, immersive experience where they:

  • Think like a photographer

  • Make creative decisions

  • Work through a real brief

  • Build something they can be proud of

It’s about confidence, ownership, and seeing what they’re capable of.

What a Day Might Look Like

Every session is tailored, but a typical day could include:

Introduction & Planning

We start by understanding the brief. Who are we shooting for? What’s the goal? What story are we trying to tell?

On Location / On Set

Whether it’s a portrait session, a styled commercial shoot, or documenting a real environment, they’ll be behind the camera, making decisions and capturing images with guidance throughout.

Creative Direction

They’ll have the opportunity to direct, adjust, and shape the shoot, learning how small changes in light, angle, or positioning can transform an image.

Selection & Editing

We review the images together, choosing the strongest shots and refining them through editing.

Final Output

They’ll leave with a curated set of images suitable for a portfolio, something tangible that reflects their work from the day.

A Bespoke Experience

  • Portrait photography (working with a model or subject)

  • Commercial / product photography (creating content for a brand-style brief)

  • Event or documentary style shooting

  • Arts, community, or sports-based environments

  • Portfolio building for GCSE or personal development:

No two sessions are the same.

Each Day in the Life is shaped around the participant, their interests, their experience level, and what they want to get out of it.

This could include:

We’ll work together in advance to shape a day that feels relevant and meaningful.

Who is it For?

  • Young people aged 12+ with a strong interest in photography

  • GCSE Photography students looking to build their portfolio

  • Creative individuals curious about careers in the industry

  • Those ready for something more hands-on, independent, and real

Why it Matters

  • For many young people, creative careers feel distant or unclear.

This experience brings it into focus.

    It shows them:

    • What the work actually looks like

    • What they’re capable of

    • And whether this is something they want to pursue further

An Investment in Their Creativity

This is a one-to-one, fully guided experience designed to offer genuine insight, not just instruction.

It’s an opportunity to:

  • Build confidence

  • Develop real-world skills

  • Create portfolio-ready work

  • Experience a day in a creative career
